Urgent blood test and ultra sound (possible lymphoma)

Hello.

I went to see mt GP today about a lump on my neck. Im a male in my mid 20s. they asked me a few questions about day to day life and how i feel. After the check and chat they said they are sending me for an urgent ultrasound and blood test.

After doing some research it seems i have alot of the syptoms of hogkins lymphoma, i just wanted to know if the urgency of the test and syptoms are something to wary about or if this is just standard protocall?

Thank you :)

  • Hello and thanks for your post

There are a variety of reasons for symptoms to develop and for most the cause will have a straightforward medical explanation and won't be anything as serious as cancer, so try if you can not to overly worry. One of the most common reasons for neck lumps is infection. Lumps can sometimes be felt for a long time after the infection has cleared and may never go back to their original size.

The next step now is to have the ultrasound scan, and I think until the results are available, no one will be able to tell you any more for now. If anything unusual is picked up a biopsy or further tests can be arranged.

I hope you know more about your situation soon and that everything turns out to be okay.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
