multiple lymph nodes raised in neck

hi!

about 6 months ago i noticed a lump on the left side of my neck and swollen glands. in march i was finally seen by a NP who told me that it was down to my diet but i wasn't convinced so asked for the GP to come and check. he suggested a ultrasound within 4 weeks.

today i had an ultrasound and was told that it isn't just those two lymphnodes but there are raised nodes all over my neck. she said she does not want to do anything else now but to see me in a couple of months to re-review and see if there are any changes and go from there. since the original appointment with the GP, i have developed a cough with no cause which has not gone away.

I am worried and just want some reassurance and to also see if it is worth pushing for something to be done now, seeing as they have already been like this for 6 months?

thank you in advance x

  • Hello beauchapho and thanks for posting,

I can understand you asking, but I can only assume that there wasn't anything especially concerning about the appearance of the lymph nodes seen today on ultrasound - if there had been I would have expected other tests to be arranged sooner rather than a re-review in a couple of months time. However it might be a good idea to go over the ultrasound report (once it has been written) with the GP and ask them to put the results in context and assess this persistent cough as it is a new symptom.

I'm afraid I am not in a position to be able to reassure anyone, but lymph nodes can get bigger than usual for a variety of reasons, people often worry the most about cancer but there are other causes so it is a good idea to keep an open mind. I think you need to talk to your GP to ask them what might be going on. I hope they can put your mind at rest.

    Best wishes,

    Julia
