Irregular bleeding and leg pain

Hi, I'm not 100% what's going on with me. I have had leg pain for the last 6 months only the top  of my right leg and low lying abdominal pains come and go sometimes shooting pains that feel like they are going towards my vagina if this makes sense. I had a smear done on the 31st January and results in march saying I'm high risk HPV and changes to the cervix. I was told I would have an appointment within 6 weeks and then I got a letter in 4 weeks saying it would be a 30 week wait. I have bleeding when I wipe for 3-4 days every week to 10 days and it's sometimes light and others sticky and dark. I have spend weeks calling my Dr and colposcopy clinics looking for a cancellation appointment with no luck. I'm not sleeping and am incredibly worried about this it's affecting my work and home life and keep getting told it's nothing to worry about. I have previously had cells burned away for the same thing roughly 10 years ago. Can you offer any advice or do you think I am over reacting. I understand covid has caused a back log in procedures and I'm not for a minute thinking I am more important than anyone else but I'm very worried about this.

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I can appreciate your concern for the pain and bleeding you have but they are not usually related to having an abnormal screening result.

I am not sure if you have been able to get a GP appointment. If not do speak with your GP practice about how best to get one. You might need to go online and book an appointment through the GP's website, this might be called E Consult but could be called something else.

I hope you can get seen and that your colposcopy appointment goes well.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
