Raised ca125 and 20cm fluid sac detected

Hi ladies. I was hoping for some help/ advise. Im 35 and have had 2 babies via c-section. Last c-section i also had ovarian cysts removed. I have felt a lump in my stomach recently so went to the doctor who said it felt like a pregnant uterus. Had bloods and a ultrasound and they found a 20cm fluid filled sac but they cannot tell if its attached to my ovary or not. Also my C125 level was slightly raised at 31. I have been given an urgent 2 week appointment with gynaecology for next week but im super scared. Could the levels raise for any other reason? Thank you x

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear that you are going through investigations.

CA125 is a protein found in blood. The level of CA125 in your blood can rise for many reasons including endometriosis, menstruation, ovarian cysts and sometimes ovarian cancer.

The charity Target Ovarian has some more information about this blood test here

    targetovariancancer.org.uk/.../ca125-blood-test

The normal range for CA125 is under 35 so it does sound like you are within the normal range.

I can understand how unsettling it can be waiting for tests but do try if you can to take one step at a time until you know more.

If you want to ring and speak to the helpline nurses at any time you are more then welcome to do so. Our number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the Best,

    Catherine

  • Thank you Catherine. I really appreciate your reply.

  • Hi I'm Emma, I'm also 35. I have recently had a high ca125 level of 59 followed by a urgent pelvic scan which I had last Friday. I'm still waiting for results and so anxious I also have a strong family history of ovarian cancer (nan, aunt and more recently my mom).

Hope all goes well for you. Xx

  • Hi Emma, i hope you hear something from them soon. Was it an ultrasound you had? They told me straight away that i had a cyst like lump. Definately water filled. Im hopeful that its nothing to worry about but like you im worrying constantly:(

  • Yes it was a ultrasound on abdomen then transvaginal. I did ask if they had seen anything or if all looked ok and she just told me that the Dr will explain it all to me. Hopefully will find out soon.

How long after your ultrasound did you hear anything? Fingers crossed for you next week. Xx

  • They sonographer explained the water filled lump straight away and told me the size. I called the doctor the next morning and they told me about the ca125 result. They said i would receive an urgent 2 week gynaecology referral and i received the appointment two days later. Maybe try your go to push them along. I really hope you get contact from them soon xx
