Coloposopy appointment came just 3 days after my smear test

Hi. I posted a few days ago but not sure if it posted as it was my first time and it says I have to add friends.. which I don't no how/what it means? Ha x but I posted that I'm HPV positive with borderline changers to the cells in my cervix. I waited nearly 5 weeks for my letter after my smear which I received on Saturday just gone but then today I have received an appointment today for my coloposopy which is for 20th June. I wasn't worried really at all until today, as I'd read that people were waiting nearly 8wks for there coloposopy appointments so I'm wondering if this is a bad thing? I no you can't tell and shouldn't stress but easier said than done x

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I have checked with the moderators about adding friends - this is related to private messaging, you can follow the guidance here

Please do not read too much into getting your colposcopy clinic appointment so quickly. The NHS is doing its best to see people as soon as possible. Each hospital has a different waiting time for a colposcopy so hearing that others are waiting longer does not mean you are in a more serious situation.

Having borderline changes is a very slight change to the cells that line your cervix, and you are being checked out to see if you need treatment (to remove the cells) now or if it is safe to wait and be screened again. It is possible that when you go to the colposcopy clinic that your abnormal cervical cells have gone back to normal or this may happen when you are seen again. This happens because the body's immune system has got rid of the HPV that caused the abnormal cells to develop.

You might find reading information about having an abnormal smear result useful , we have this information on our website, click here  to see it.

I hope this has helped. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
