Lymph node ultrasound results

I've recently had an ultrasound on a cervical lymph node that i found ages ago. The person who did the ultrasound told me there was nothing to worry about and the results will be sent to my GP in a few days. Today i received a text from my GP that my results are in and a routine telephone appointment with a clinician is booked for next week to discuss this further.

Is this normal? i cant stop worrying that because the Doctor wants to discuss the results that its impending bad news, surely if there was nothing wrong i wouldnt have to speak to anybody apart from the receptionist.

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear that you are having investigations.  I am afraid I can't tell you what the clinician is going to say to you when they speak to you next week. Try not to read in to it too much until you know more. Some doctors have a policy where they like to give the results to the patients themselves or you may find they want to do further investigations.

Try and keep yourself busy and your mind on other things until you know more. There are other reasons for swollen lymph glands and you say that you have had it for a while.

If at any stage you would like to ring and talk to one of the nurses on the helpline then you are more then welcome to do so.

We are here office hours 9-5 Monday to Friday. Freephone 0808 800 4040.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
