  • Hello Sharay and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear that you needed lung surgery .

Sometimes pain after surgery can take some time to go. If you have not mentioned the pain you describe to your lung cancer nurse or doctor then please do.  They may be also able to tell you why it is happening. For example sometimes nerves are cut or disrupted during surgery and they can take some time to repair themselves.

If this is very painful then also let your team know and ask for you pain relief to be reviewed (if you are taking any pain relief medication) or to recommend or prescribe pain killers that might help. Your GP may also be able to help.

At night you may also feel more comfortable sleeping in a different position and perhaps with more pillow support. There are a range of different type of support pillows available in shops and online.

I hope you can speak to your cancer team about this and that you will soon feel better.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
