Breast implant illness?

I had a skin saving masectomy (DCIS) and a reconstruction on one breast using a silicone implant.  However over the five years in which i have had the implant  I have experienced health problems and I am considering having it removed as I personally  think a lot of what is happening to me may be down to the implant itself (after doing a lot of research about Breast implant illness).   However  if i was to go ahead with this would it be possible to have a breast reconstruction using my own tissue at a later date.

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

I'm sorry you have been going through all of this but unfortunately I can't answer your question. What surgery you may be able to have would need to be discussed with the specialist breast surgeon when you talk through the implant removal. They will be in best position to assess you and know what may be possible.

I have placed here some information on breast reconstruction with your own body tissue which may be useful.

If you are still in touch with your breast care nurse (CNS), do give them a call about how you have been feeling. If not speak to your GP about referring you back into the system.

Take care, and I hope you get the answers you need soon.

    Sarah.
