Chemotherapy after bowel cancer operation

Hi

I had my operation on the 20th April to remove a tumour and lymph nodes of which 2 were affected but everything was contained within the bowel wall, I have an appointment next week to discuss chemotherapy which will probably start mid June, I have a holiday booked in July so I was just wondering would it be feasible to delay the start of treatment by 4 weeks ? or is this not recommended ? Thanks for your advice in advance.

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I can't say for sure, but I think your cancer specialist will want to start your chemotherapy treatment sooner rather than later. You will need to discuss this with your hospital team to see what options are there for you around your treatment timing. There would be a certain time frame after surgery, when chemotherapy would have the most benefit.

I hope that you get to find out more soon,

    Best wishes,
