Hi there
My husband had a stage 1a melanoma removed from tip of his ear last summer. They removed a second layer of tissue that was all clear, and did a sentinel node removal which was all clear.
He's just had his first check up ultrasound a couple of weeks ago. The technician said it looked OK to her and she couldn't see anything nasty but that it would be reviewed as normal.
Yesterday he received a dreadfully worded online message saying that following his scan and subsequent review, they had found some slight anomalies and he's been recalled for a CT/PET scan. We both panicked. He rang the cancer team and one of the nurses was quite reassuring. It turns out that the anomaly found was that his lymph nodes on both sides of his neck were all slightly enlarged. She said the most common reason for this is when one is fighting off a virus. He did have a cold at the time because he remembers reassuring the technician that he had had a negative covid result that morning.
She said that they are taking a belt and braces approach here rather than are particularly worried but I'm going out of my mind with worry now. Possibly because of the shock of that awful online message. Despite her explanations and reassurances the initial shock hasn't worn off. She did say that he wasn't supposed to get that before a phone call but someone pushed the button too early.
Has anyone encountered this please?
Many thanks and love to you all.
