Awaiting skin biopsy results

Hi, so in March I went to the GP as my mum had noticed that some moles didn't look particularly the best and seemed suspicious, as I went to the GP they also did a physical examination to look at the moles in question (one being a large birthmark/mole), the nurse had pulled up a chart to go against looking at the lesions in question, he stated them to be suspicious especially the larger birthmark/mole. I was told I would be having an urgent referral, I waited 3-4 for my first appointment with a dermatologist, then waited a further 1-2 weeks to then have the larger birthmark/mole removed through biopsy incision. I have now been waiting for 5 weeks for my skin biopsy results and when I spoke to a secretary a few days ago the way a certain part of it sounded made me anxiously worried. I have been told since that they were going to send the report back to the doctors as urgent and if I don't hear anything today I have to contact them again. It's the waiting that gets me as I'm already an anxious person, only 21 years old, is it good that I haven't recieved a letter or phone call yet 5 weeks after the minor op?

thanks in advance

  • Hello HJK and thanks for posting,

I can understand you asking, but I don't think you can draw any firm conclusions about not having heard what the biopsy results showed yet. When people are worried they often try and 'read' a situation understandably to deduce what the outcome might be, but I don't really think you can.

Whatever it was that has bothered you about what the secretary said might not be something you need to worry about, but as you have been told to contact them again if you haven't heard anything, do get back in touch.

Waiting for results is is extremely hard on the nerves and most people feel stressed and strung out. I hope you find out more soon.

    Take care,

    Julia
