Cervical Biopsy Results

Hi, I am new to the forum but I was after some advice, I have been told my biopsy results have come back saying I have endocervical mucosa what does this mean? I have been tested for any infections and all are negative, I have cervical ectropion and have been experiencing bleeding after sex between periods, can this be a sign of cancer?

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

The endocervical mucosa is the inner part of the cervix that forms a canal that connects the vagina to the uterus. The endocervix is lined with cells that make mucous.

In describing the endocervical mucosa this may mean the area that the colposcopist looked at,  but of course I can't be sure.

Jo's Trust has some useful information on Cervical Ectropion and how it can sometimes be treated. Have a look at the details here

As I am sure you are aware cervical ectropion is when cells that are on the inside of the cervix are found on the outside. It is a common condition and may explain why you are getting some bleeding after sex.

The report that you have told me does not give any indication that cancer is present but you may find it more helpful to go and discuss this all with your GP particularly if you are continuing to have bleeding after sex.

I do hope that this all settles down soon.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
