Finding Teva

I have finally reached the point of considering stopping taking my daily Letrazol medication because I continue to feel so unwell trying several brands that aren't Teva related.   I had my breast cancer operation 2 and a half years ago and was initially prescribed  Teva Letrazol medication which caused me no issues at all.  Suddenly, after around 10 months of getting on so well using this tablet, the brand became unavailable, with no real explanation from pharmacists as to why.  Only that they can't get hold of any. I cannot find any chemist, so far, that can track this down for me:  Boots, Tesco,  Loyds, Independant chemists.  My GP very kindly even requests on my prescriptions for Teva brands if possible.  But to no avail.

It is very sad indeed for everyone that has gone through so much with their cancer treatment to then find themselves in a position where their medication that once agreed with them can no longer be obtained.  What is interesting though, is that I am not alone trying to track down Teva Letrazol.  I know several ladies also in the same predicament as myself .  I cannot find an answer as to why this drug is so impossible to obtain.  Especially since it is so highly valued by cancer patients in remission stage.

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I am very sorry to hear about your situation. How frustrating not to be able to find the brand of letrozole that agrees with you.

I have come across Teva's website for patients where you can submit a question. I don't know whether it will help but it is worth trying. Have a look here

You have posted in 'ask the nurses' but if you post on another thread you may find that you get more replies and suggestions from other women. You could also get in contact with Breast Cancer Now. They also have a forum so you could see what they have to say. You can see details of their forum here

Breast Cancer Now have produced some information about the side effects that women can get with this treatment and it also has tips on how to manage some of the effects. Have a look here

Before you decide to stop do chat this through with your GP to see what they suggest.

You are of course more then welcome to ring and speak to one of the helpline nurses. Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the Best,

    Catherine

  • Hello Catherine

Thank you so very much for all the useful information and help you have so kindly given to me , and suggested as well.  I really do appreciate this!

I will look in to everything right now and feel a little more positive that there are other routes I can explore trying to find a Teva brand.

With best wishes and kind regards.
