Dry at night

I had the op in mid-march. When catheter was removed I was totally incontinent. (Had to fight GPs to get help) . After 10 days started getting urge to pee at night. Now several proper pees at night but not during the day. Is this the early stages of recovery of peeing?

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I believe from your post you are talking about a prostatectomy that you have recently had.

Having some degree of bladder problems after this type of surgery can be quite common. You can read more about this on our website here

It can take a while for the nerves and muscles to recover after prostate surgery. Do have a read on ProstateUK website about what to expect after surgery here

They have a fact sheet which you can either download or you can order from ProstateUK. They also have some information about the importance of pelvic floor exercises which can help strength the area giving you more control when you want to 'pee'.

I do hope that as time goes on things will continue to improve.

Do remember that it is still early days since you have had your surgery but if you do come across any more problems do get in touch with your doctor or any specialist nurse who has been involved in your care.

If you would like to ring and chat through any of this with one of the nurses on the helpline then you are more then welcome to do so. Our  number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
