  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I am very sorry to hear about your experience of having smear tests done and that they have been really uncomfortable and painful for you.

I am sorry but we cannot advise you about buying what seems to be a HPV testing kit. This is because they are not being used by the NHS.

You have been offered a smear test or examination under anaesthetic of your cervix.  This sounds like it could be the best way for you to have your screening done. I think if you want to know what other women's experience of this is that you post in another area of the forum, you can see the list to the left of this page.

You might also find it helpful to discuss this with the Practice Nurse at your GP practice as they have a lot experience of the screening programme.

I hope you will be okay.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • Hello Nurse

thank you for reply I want to know is this best way for anthestic smear test. Is there any side effect  and is it safe?

  • Hello and thanks for getting back to us again,

The anaesthetist is very experienced at putting patients to sleep and as it is a very quick procedure you will not have to be put to sleep for very long.

I am sure that they will explain everything to you before they put you to sleep and answer any questions that you may have.

I do hope that you have a better experience for your next smear.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
