Could it be Secondry Cancer?

Hi

First timer here and after some advice after reading through other peoples post - I hope your all well.

8 years ago i was diagnosed with Melanoma in my left leg - had WLE and then a yr later it came back in lymph nodes, had these removed in groin and pelvis - FF 6yrs and I have found a lump in left breast on upper outer quadrant, lump not painful but lymph nodes towards armpit are tender and swollen although i cant feel any lumps in lymph nodes - seen GP who reffered me to breast clinic appoitment is tomorrow - I have a family history of Breast cancer along with everyother cancer lung, liver bowel etc seems to have always been in my life - Im personally ok at the moment but im feeling myself get angry at hear I go again - what happens at the clinic, wil they tell me tomorrow if they think its cancer or do I have to wait for biopsy results etc - also I think its rare for Melanoma to spread to breast so does anyone know if this could be Breast Cancer - ive read about secondry cancers but dont really understand if it a new one or a one that started because of something else

Many thanks in advance for taking the time to read this

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am so sorry to hear about your situation. I can understand how frustrating this must be for you going through further tests.

Breast Cancer Now have produced some information about what to expect at a breast clinic which you can read about here

If you are attending a one stop breast clinic you may get all your results on the same day but if you are having a core biopsy you may have to wait a few days for the results.

From what I have read breast secondaries after a melanoma diagnosis are rare but unfortunately until the doctors have looked at the mammogram and ultrasound and taken a biopsy they will probably not be able to tell you any more.

There are many benign (not cancer) breast conditions that women can such as cysts and fibroadenomas which you can read about here

I do hope that you know more about your situation soon. Try not to think too far ahead.

You are more then welcome to ring and talk to one of the helpline nurses. Our number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
