Night sweats

Hi,

new to here. Compels cyst with intermediate risk of malignancy found. Hysterectomy in 3 weeks, no other indicators of cancer but mdt team asked for chest X-ray. Can anyone helps with a couple of things:

will a 3 weeks wait change anything? Terrified if it is cancer a 3 weeks wait will give it time to spread? I know there's nothing I can go to speed this up (I went private) but still scared the wait will make it worse?

probably a dumb question, but what is a night sweat? I read on here about people waking up and having to change clothes? I wake up sweaty (I'd put it down to menopause) but not to the level of being dripping or having to change. Am I having night sweats or am I just hot? Again scared as I read this is a symptom of cancer in lymph nodes?

hope someone can help

thank you

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation. Waiting for three weeks for surgery I am sure will not make much difference so try not to let that worry you.

You may find it helpful to read the NHS definition of what a night sweat is which you can read here

The night sweats that you are experiencing may be because your bed clothes are too warm rather then due to any other reason so try not to over think what it all means.

Try and take things one step at a time.

Talk through your concerns with your doctor so hopefully they can put your mind at rest.

I hope this helps and your surgery goes well. If you feel that you would like to chat through any of this with one of the nurses on the helpline then do give us a ring.  Our number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
