Waiting for results

Hi,

I went to get a breast lump checked which was fine but a previous lump I had, had changed and grown quite large so they decided to do a biopsy. They suspected a fibrodenoma and the biopsy results confirmed this. They said they would still like to remove it due to the size and changes and they decided to remove another lump they said was a fibrodenoma whilst I was under anesthetic incase that grew as well. Whilst I was in surgery they found a further lump which they decided to remove so I had 3 lumps removed in total. They said they will be sent off to histology for testing although I thought I already had my diagnosis of fibrodenoma and didn't realise they would complete further tests which could take 4-6 weeks for me to get the results! Is this just routine? I'm not overly worried, I'm 21 and healthy but I can't help having that little doubt.

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear you needed to have some breast lumps removed and appreciate waiting for results is always a worry.

It is very routine to send all tissue samples/breast lumps to histology after surgery even when nothing abnormal is suspected, so try not to worry.

Breast cancer would be extremely rare at your age. It seems the doctors decided to remove these lumps as they were quite big and to prevent further problems in the future.

I hope you know more soon but try and put it to the back of your mind for now and instead keep yourself busy with other things.

Wishing you all the very best

    Naomi
