Mole change

Hello everyone.

H have a tiny mole/freckle on my inner thigh that today suddenly became scabbed and  red/black and fell off (due to rubbing against my other thigh). It bled for maybe 15 seconds and has now stopped. I'm concerned it may be skin cancer as this week I've been on holiday sunbathing and I'm worried this has hm affected it. The area where it is means that it's irritated when I wear denim shorts so maybe it's just been irritated and this is why it's scabbed and gone that colour? There's just a faint pinkie mark where it was now but the area is still lumpy and feels like I have a mole. To be honest I really can't remember if there was already a mole in the area, but I think there was.

What should I do? Just seeking some advice/reassurance. How likely is it for mole changes to be skin cancer? Please keep in mind that I won't be able to try and get an appointment with a doctor u til later next week as I'm on holiday!

Thank you

  • Hello and thanks for your post

Moles are common and most don’t develop into skin cancer. But they should always be checked out if they change shape or colour just to be on the safe side. This does not s mean that anything serious is wrong but they should be examined just to be sure. The best thing for you to do is to make an appointment to see your GP.They are very experienced at looking at skin conditions.

Because of the current pandemic GP’s are offering telephone appointments initially with their patients. They may ask you for a mobile phone photo to be emailed to them to have a look at the areas of concern. If they need to see you they can offer you a face to face appointment.

    I hope this helps.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
