Breast cancer and chicken pox

Hello all, I've recently been diagnosed with st3 breast cancer, my grand daughter has just visited me and she has chicken pox, I've not started treatment yet, surgery on 29th April then chemo once I've healed, am I at risk of getting Ill from being around her even tho I've had the chicken pox and not started treatment yet?? I really don't want my operation cancelled !!!!! Thank you all

  • Hi there Daizie,

I'm pretty sure that if you've had chicken pox, it's extremely rare to get it again so you don't need to worry. Good luck with your treatment ️

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear you are about to undergo surgery and appreciate this must be an anxious time for you.

The risk of developing chicken pox is extremely low as you have already had it. There is a risk of getting shingles but this is also likely to be low if you immune system is good which prior to treatment it should be.

Try not to worry but do let the specialist team know about your exposure just to be on the safe side.

Wishing you all the best in the coming weeks and months and do get back if you have further questions or would like some support.

    Take care

    Naomi
