Covid and BCG treatment

Hi,

I have been undergoing BCG bladder cancer treatment since December last year. My last set of the three treatments finished at the end of March. Things appeared to be going relatively well but three weeks ago I caught Covid.

The Covid was bad enough as I was wiped out for two weeks. However more worrying is that over the past couple of weeks I have been passing much more blood clots. I have some pain around my kidney and I feel extremely fatigued.

Has Covid had a detrimental impact on my treatment or is something else going on?

  • Hello Tom88

I wanted to just pop on and drop a reply to you as our nurse team is now out of the office for the Easter weekend so won't reply to your post for a few days.

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had Covid since finishing your BCG treatment. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about the increase in clots and the pain/fatigue that you've been experiencing.

I certainly think it's worth speaking to your clinical nurse specialist or Consultant when you can and letting them know about these symptoms. Hopefully, they will be able to give you some reassurance but if any additional checks are needed they can get these organised for you.

Let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello there and sorry for the delay in getting back to you

I hope you have by now been able to speak to someone in your specialist team about the symptoms you are experiencing so they can assess you properly.

There could be several reasons for the symptoms you are having and it is important they are checked out by your doctors just to be on the safe side.

Covid can affect people in different ways as I am sure you are aware so it could well be linked to this or an ongoing side effect of the treatment, or perhaps a combination of both.

Try not to worry but see what your team has to say and go from there.

I hope things improve for you soon but do get back in touch if needed.

    All the best

    Naomi
