Lymphoma what tests are done to diagnosis this

Diagnosis? What tests are done to diagnosis lymphoma?  Can a ct alone diagnose this?  What tests are done. Im so confused ive had a ct, and awaiting appointment for my consultant but wandering if a ct actually shows lymphoma or only big masses.

  • Hello and thanks for your post

There are a number of tests that may be carried out if lymphoma is suspected and you can read more about this here.

A CT scan may give doctors a good idea about what is going on, but sometimes a biopsy is also needed.

I appreciate waiting when you are worried is very stressful but I'm sure your consultant or one of the team will be able to clarify your situation soon.

Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

  • Hello and thanks for getting back

As celene said often more than one test is needed to diagnose a cancer. With lymphoma often blood tests, a biopsy and a scan is needed to diagnose and stage ( decide the size and extent of the cancer) a lymphoma.

Sometimes CT scans don't pick up lymphoma but is often used to check for any lymph nodes that may be affected once a diagnosis is suspected or has already been made.

Talk to your doctor about what other tests you may need if nothing shows up on the scan.

I hope you know more soon

    Take care
