Swimming after Left upper lobe resection

Hi, I had a 1cm tumour removed 8 weeks ago from my left upper lobe part of the lung. The operation was keyhole and completely removed the cancer. The tumour had metasticised from my right kidney which was removed 18 months ago. I am also waiting to have my right adrenal gland removed, this has a 19mm tumour in it. Apart from all of the above I have no other medical problems, I am generally fit and walk anything up to 8 miles a day and either cycle indoors on a bike trainer for a couple of hours or outside for 1 1/2 - 2 hours. I have also swam on average 5 miles a week for years. I am 65. The surgeon said I shouldn't fly or swim for six months after the surgery. Has anybody had a similar operation and has returned to swimming earlier than 6 months?

Thanks

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I am not sure that you will necessarily get a response from the online community as this can vary as to who may reply to you.

I don't think it is that easy to gauge advice given from other forum users. Advice generally relates to the experience of other patients after surgery that the surgeon draws from. You could ask the hospital team or your GP for a physiotherapy assessment, as it is possible that their professional feedback might influence the surgeon's thinking on this time frame. Unfortunately, I don't have any specific UK guidelines on this to refer to.

    Wishing you the best,

    Vanda
