Major weight loss with history of cancer.

I have a history of renal cancer going back a decade. Since February this year I have lost four kilos in weight and have regular bouts of chills. ‘If’ my cancer has returned or this is metastasis, would this be the expected symptoms?

I’m eating the same amount of food and have added bulk and high calorie foodstuffs like Bananas, Marzipan and nuts, but the weight keeps dropping off.

Mr GP is impossible to contact due to their gate keeping, and the hospital that manage my follow up appointments have yet to respond to my calls and email.

So, I need to make my own way forward.

  • Hello, and thank you for posting.

I'm sorry that you are having these concerns, but I'm afraid I don't know if these symptoms mean your cancer has returned, or if these symptoms are from metastases or something else entirely.

Your hospital team or your GP are the only ones who can take this further and investigate. Do continue to try and contact them maybe through a specialist nurse (CNS) or your consultants secretary. Or try the GP through their website or phone APP.

I've placed here some information on help putting on weight if interesting, but it would be good to find the reason for the weight loss first.

I hope you get hold of someone to talk through your concerns soon, and if you want to talk anything out with us don't hesitate to give our helpline a call.  The number is Freephone 0808 800 4040, and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Sarah.

  • Thank you for the diet information, that is really usefull.  If that doesnt work, then I will try the full fat chocolate diet and go out smiling :)
