I am sorry to hear about your sister and appreciate seeing her in pain and discomfort must be upsetting for you.

Without being involved in your sister's care it is difficult to know whether there is enough fluid to drain but I am sure if the doctors felt there would be benefit they would be suggesting this. You can read about ascites here and that sometimes water tablets (diuretics) can also be tried to reduce the amount of excess fluid.

Unfortunately not everyone will benefit from the drainage of ascites and like all procedures there are possible risks. If the risks outweigh the benefits then the doctors at this time won't be recommending drainage. I am sure they will continue to closely monitor this but do make sure your sister lets them know how she is feeling and of any changing symptoms.
