Hi ca125

Have  long bouts of bleeding and they have found I have a number of polyps and fibroids , they have removed the biggest polyps and that has come back a clear but my ca125 test has come back as 345 , I know this is high and am worried sick . I think my question to anyone here is has anyone else had a ca125 test back that's that high and it not be cancer . Looking for any grain of hope at the moment

  • Hello Cherie and thanks for your post

When the CA125 blood level is raised, this indicates that there is some sort of inflammation in the pelvic area. But it cannot tell the doctor exactly what is causing the inflammation. So it is not specific for ovarian cancer. Other conditions can cause this level to rise such as ovarian cysts, polyps and fibroids.

The symptoms of ovarian cancer are also similar to other non-cancerous conditions. This is why doctors will not rely on the CA125 test alone to help diagnose someone. If necessary, they will suggest an ultrasound scan which will look at the pelvic area in more detail.

You can read more about the CA 125 test by clicking here.

Hopefully people will come along and share their experiences with you, as support like this can be invaluable. But it’s important to bear in mind that even if there are other people who have experienced similar things to you, I’m not sure that their experience will shed much light about what is going on with you.

Waiting when you are worried is stressful but I hope you know more about your situation soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

  • I had a internal scan 4 weeks As far as I understand I still have some more polyps and a number of fibroids I also got a cyst on my left ovary ,I was told I have a very slightly thickened womb , so im hoping all things things are fine but would explain the high number . The worry is crippling me , I don't know how im going to get though the next 2 weeks x

  • Hello and thanks for your further post

I appreciate waiting any length of time when you are worried is very stressful.

Easier said than done but try if you can not to over think the situation for now and try not to anticipate what might be the matter. Not even your doctor can be sure at the moment. I'm afraid until the results are back no one can tell you anymore for now. Hopefully nothing too serious is wrong.

Some people find talking it through with family and friends and keeping busy can sometimes help. But until you know more it’s natural to worry.

I hope you know more about your situation soon.

    Best wishes,

    Celene
