MRI results

Hi, I had my MRI exactly 3 weeks ago. No one is telling me anything on the phone however I called today to ask for an update and the secretary of my consultant explained they had called a meeting with different departments to look over my images, the report has been made and my consultant is making a decision of which department to see me. She said I would receive a letter for an appointment to come in...

my gut instinct is telling me this is not good news? I feel if there was nothing to worry about the doctor wouldn't need to see me in person, am I barking up the wrong tree or?

anxiety is very high!

  • Hi,

I'm sorry that I can't be of any help but I was wondering how you got in touch with your consultant because I had a mri 3 weeks ago and I haven't heard anything back, I don't know if my gp will get the results because they referred me to neurology or if will be someone from the hospital, and everyone I ring is telling me something different and it's making me panic more because I don't know what's going with the results.

Sorry for the long ramble, did you get referred by your gp or was it someone else?

I hope everything comes back positive for you.

    Thanks

    Abbie

  • Hi! I was in hospital for a kidney stone when I had an ultrasound which found the tumour on my liver, so the hospital referred me. When I spoke to my GP they said they wouldn't get my results because they didn't refer me, so I think if your gp did refer you they would get your results.

i was given the secretaries number by calling the department that referred me.

hope this helps, fingers crossed for you xxx

  • Yeah, my gp referred me to see a neurologist and then neurologist said to get an mri, that's what I'm confused about would it still be my gp that referred me in that cause. Hopefully that's makes some sense.

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation. Waiting for results can be extremely stressful. Try if you can to not let your mind run away with you until you know more.

I can't say what is happening in your situation with so little information and not being involved in your care.

Hopefully if the report has been written you should hear in the next few days which department you will be going to.

I do hope that you know more about your situation soon.

If at any stage you would like to ring and speak to one of the helpline nurses you are more then welcome to do so.  Our he number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the Best,

    Catherine

  • Thank you so much!

the report was written about a week ago according to the sec, and he has since had the meeting to discuss my results with the other departments.

Hoping I get some more information as soon as possible because the weeks can feel like months when waiting for news!

    thank you again!

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about the confusion. If the neurologist organised the MRI the results will go to the neurologist but they will send a copy of the results to the GP.

The neurologist may have either said that they would see you with the results of the MRI or the neurologist maybe suggesting that the GP sees you with the results if there was no further follow up.

It is difficult to be certain as to what is happening in your situation as I am not involved in your care.

Once you have had the MRI you could always check with the neurologists secretary about ny further follow up.

    I hope this helps.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
