Follow up after silver nitrate on cervical ectropion

Hi,

I was treated with silver nitrate on cervical ectropion, just wondering if my symptoms get improved do I have to go back to doctor for follow up, after care or I can just leave it as it should be healed?

Thank you!

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

You should have received information about this from the team that originally treated you. I am assuming that it was done at your local hospital, although some GPs can also do this.

There isn't usually further formal follow up, as healing afterwards should resolve the original problem.

There is more information here from another NHS Hospital trust patient information leaflet,

    www.cuh.nhs.uk/.../

If you experience symptoms such as discharge now, then do let your GP or hospital team know, as sometimes you can get a slight infection after treatment.

Otherwise, healing should occur fully after several weeks. It is advisable to not use tampons, or have penetrative sex till then, to promote healing.

Sometimes, the ectropion can return, and repeat treatments are required, but do let your GP know if this is the case.

I hope that this is helpful,

    Kind regards,

    Vanda
