Could a breast lump that doesn’t move be anything else?

Hey

so I've got an appointment for the breast clinic which is meant to be a two week referral but it's weeks away.. in the meantime I am freaking out.
I've been exclusively pumping for 6 months as my child is too ill to breast feed.  I have a lump in my breast I noticed it some weeks ago but my child was having surgery and in intensive so I just forgot about it to be honest with the stress.
Since we've been home and I've had time to look at myself I've noticed that my once larger breast is now much smaller than the other one. I have this lump which is hard, painless and doesn't move. I want to say it's oval shaped but quite long. It's around 3cm.
I've been trying not to Google but from what I've read when the lump doesn't move it's time to worry. Is there anything else it could be other than cancer?  Every other lump seems to be moveable and/or cause pain.

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I'm sorry to read about your situation and the stress you've been under recently caring for your sick child.

We can't diagnose anyone on here but you may find that your breast lump may be due to a blocked milk duct or a benign (not cancer) lump. But until it's checked out no one can tell you any more for now.

The breasts go through a lot of changes in pregnancy and with breastfeeding / pumping. And it's not unusual for them to look or feel different.

At the breast clinic they are likely to examine you and carry out some type of imaging ( mammogram or ultrasound) to find out more. Waiting and not knowing can be unsettling so try and keep yourself busy and your mind on other things if you can as this can help.

I hope everything turns out to be okay.

    Best wishes,

    Celene
