I have just had the result of an abdominal ultra-sound and it has shown that I have a Incidential 4.8cm multiloculated hemorrhagic cyst on my right ovary. I just wondered if anyone knew what this meant, before I start looking it up?

Hello and thank you for your post.
I will do my best to explain but please remember that we are cancer nurses and not gynaecology doctors.
Incidental means that this was found in someone with little or no symptoms. Multiloculated means the the cyst contains a few structural areas within it. Haemorrhagic means that the cyst contains blood.
A gynaecology doctor will decide if this can be left to see if it goes away on its own and rescan you to see if it has. Or you may need to have surgery to remove it. I think it is safe to say that for most women this type of cyst will not be caused by cancer.
Hopefully you will receive more information about your situation soon.
Please get back to us if you need any more information or support. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
Take care,
Caroline
