Breast lump

Hi Iv had a breast lump bout size of my finger nail for 6 months , it hasn't grew n it is movable it's beside my aerola ,I'm really frightened, I'm 51 and think I'm going through the menopause atm

  • I would contact my doctor to get it checked not all lumps are cancerous many are cysts the reassurance would be great. I have been going to breast clinic for years with lumps and lymph nodes some have been removed others just watched.
    Take care

  • Hello Smiler123 and thanks for posting,

Finding a breast lump is usually scary so I can understand you being frightened.  I'm afraid no one here on Cancer Chat can say what is causing anyone's lump, so we are limited in how much reassurance we can offer,  but I can tell you that breast lumps can occur for several reasons and cancer isn't the only possible explanation. Try and keep an open mind for now.

The best thing to do is to tell your GP about this lump so they can assess it for you. When necessary they can refer to the local NHS breast clinic.

Sometimes people are too frightened about what might be the matter to get something like this checked out.  If you feel a bit like this don't let fear get the better of you, make a GP appointment and get this lump properly sorted out. A lot of the time nothing serious is going on and your mind can be put at rest. But if something does turn out to be cancer, it needs to be treated.

Please give us a call if you want to talk anything over on Freephone 0808 800 4040, we are around weekdays from 9-5.

    Best wishes,

    Julia
