Hard lump under ear, tmj related or lymphoma

Hello, oh gosh where do i start.
My anxiety has taken over me and i cannot relax. Ive had on my right side a very hard, almost like bone feeling lump under my ear between my skull and jaw for 5 years plus. I cannot move it and it doesnt feel fleshy. It also hasnt grown to my knowledge although it is very big around 2.5cm. i dont have any other symptoms of lymphoma although another swelling of a lymph node has appeared under my chin now which is quite firm too but fleshy feeling and movable.

has anybody ever had a very hard lymph node that wasnt cancerous but just didnt go down? I saw the doctor today and ill be booking an ultrasound tomorrow.

i have tmj on my right side where the swellings are so i do already have plenty of imflammation in my eat cannal and neck and jaw etc.

i cannot eat or sleep and cant stop feeling this lump.
i cannot find anywhere someone with a similar lump. Please help

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to hear about your symptoms. It is good to hear that you have now seen your GP and you are having an ultrasound and hopefully you will know more soon.

You sound like you have had it for a long time and it is good to hear that it does not appear to have grown in that time.

I can't say what the hard bone like structure is under the ear but an ultrasound is considered the gold standard for looking at lumps. You can read about ultrasounds here

Even though it can be helpful hearing from other members of the forum everyone's situation is very different and it is difficult to compare one person with another.

I hope that you know more about your situation soon.

    All the Best,

    Catherine

  • Hi,

About 10 years ago I had an ear infection. It started off as a soft, painful swelling behind my ear, which turned into a hard painless lump that feels like bone. It is still there today. I have never had it checked as I thought nothing of it, apart from huh that's weird.

You've done the right thing to have it checked if it's causing you this much worry, but perhaps it'll reassure you in the mean time that someone else has had a similar thing.

    Hugs x
