Really sore feet, knees and legs

Hi all

i finished chemo for breast cancer 6 months ago. I felt fine all through my treatments. I'm having trouble now with very painful feet, knees and legs if I'm standing for too long. It starts off with sore feet and then spreads to my knees and legs. I'm part of a drama group and rehearsals involve lots of standing around for up to 5 hours. I'm in agony from it. I feel like an old woman. I'm only 48!

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about the side effects that you are experiencing 6 months after treatment. I can understand how frustrating it must be for you.

Sometimes chemotherapy treatment can cause late term side effects further down the line. It would be a good idea to get in touch with either your Breast Care Nurse (BCN) or your GP so you can have your different symptoms assessed. I came across a post written on Breast Cancer Now's forum of women who have experienced pain after treatment which you can see here

I am not sure whether you are on hormonal treatment after your chemotherapy as these can also cause muscle and joint pain. You can read more about these here

There maybe different treatments that your GP or BCN may consider helpful. This may include some medication and some physio.

Some patients consider looking at complimentary therapies to help relieve some of their symptoms but do chat to the people involved in your care. There is some information about the different types of complimentary therapy that may help relieve your symptoms. Have a look here

You have posted in ask the nurses but if you post on another thread you may find that you get other responses.

I do hope that your symptoms improve. If you feel that it would be helpful to discuss any of this with one of the nurses on the helpline then do get back to us or give us a ring.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
