Hilar node

Can you have a left hilar node removed without loosing a lung.

  • Hello Lollipop63 and thank you for your post.

This is not something a cancer nurse here can give a definitive answer to. This is because the decision about surgery such as whether it is possible to have it and if so what will be the extent of it is made at a multidisciplinary (MDT) meeting by a lung cancer surgeon. The decision to remove a lung rather than part of it will only be done if it is needed and it is safe to do so.

It might be helpful for you or the person with cancer to go back to their cancer team and ask them. If a lung cancer nurse is involved in this person's care I am sure they could give more information that will give a better understanding of the surgery that has been offered.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
