Pain and breast lump

Hi

I found a lump and went to get it checked by the GP (25 feb) who referred me to the local breast clinic but my appointment isn't until 6 april. I've since noticed that the lump is hurting. I don't know if I should call the GP to tell them or if I should wait for my clinic appointment. I'm assuming there's nothing more my GP can do now and I just have to wait but I wondered what other people would advise. Thanks

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

Waiting to be seen I know can be a worrying time. Unfortunately we all know that the NHS is under a lot of stress and some people are waiting longer to be seen. Waiting an extra few weeks will hopefully not cause you any harm but could cause more worry.

Pain is not a usual symptom of breast cancer but if you are concerned you could make a GP appointment to discuss it and to also let your GP know when your appointment is. However, I don't think this will necessarily mean you will be seen any quicker.

I hope you will be okay.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
