Navyman - can radiotherapy cause pain after treatment?

Hi

I had 20 radiotherapy sessions for lung cancer which ended on 23rd December. Apart from few red scratch like marks there is nothing to see, but all my skin on back and front of torso and on left arm is painfull and sore. does anyone know if this is the result of the radiotherapy? My cancer is in left lung.

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about the treatment you have had and the pain and discomfort you are now experiencing.

Radiotherapy can cause an array of different side effects some immediately and some as time goes on. It's rare but radiotherapy can sometimes affect the joints and muscles around the area where the radiotherapy was given. Exercises and pain killers may help to ease this but it would be best to let your doctor know so they can assess you just to make sure nothing else is going on, and so they can advise you as to what you should do.

Get back if you need to or feel free to give us a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday-Friday 9-5.

    All the best

    Naomi
