Still bleeding after endometrial biopsy

Hi, I am 61 and have been on HRT for 18 years.

I am currently on low does activella.

The only problem I have ever had is fibroids and vaginal atrophy, which sometimes cause bleeding after sex.

I always get this checked out and have a yearly medical and smear test here in Spain where I now live.

However, this last time I had a vaginaly ultrasound.  This showed everyting was normal, my ovaries were fine, my uterus was less than 5mm, but again I had some fibroids.

The Sanish gynae was very against HRT and suggest ed to be safe I had a biopsy.  So I agreed there and then.

The biopsy came back no cancerous cells found  But in the report it said there was scant material in the sample.

So my gynae said I should come straigh tof HRT or have a hysteroscopy to be absolutley sure there weas nothing else wrong.

Since my biopsy I have bled, albeit only slightly, most days at least once when wiping.

My head is now completely messed up and I seriously don't know what to do.

Please, any advice would be most welcome.

I am extremeley active, healthy, and not over weight.

Thank you

Lorraine

  • Hello Lorraine and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation.

Without being involved in your care and not having doctors at CRUK to give an opinion I would be guided by your gynaecologist. It sounds like an insufficient sample was obtained to say there was no risk. You could consider having a hysteroscopy to rule anything serious out if that is what they suggest.

In the UK bleeding after the menopause would need to be investigated to rule anything serious out. Have a read about what the NHS has to say about bleeding here

We have some information about the risks associated with HRT which you can read about here

It does sound like you need to have another conversation with your gynaecologist to discuss what your next steps are.

I am sorry not to be able to help more and I do hope that you find out more soon.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
