Waiting for biopsy on skin patch

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone could calm my nerves. I have had a brown patch on my cheek for years and I was told all that time ago it was sun damage. Recently  it seems more noticeable and dry so I phoned the Gp and had an urgent dermatology appointment. At the appointment the doctor didn't say much apart from he would send me for 2 small biopsies The appointment was 6 days ago and I haven't heard anything since. I have tried contacting my doctor's and the hospital but can't get through. My hair is falling out with worry. But I am trying to tell myself they would have sent me straight away for the biopsy if he was that concerned. Is anyone in the same boat?

  • Hello there

I am sorry to hear you are awaiting a biopsy and appreciate this must be a worry for you.

Easier said than done, but try not to worry or over think things until you have more information about what may or may not be going on.

I would say it is probably worth giving the dermatology unit another call to chase up the appointment date for the biopsy.

Waiting and not knowing what the matter is can be a rather nerve racking time, remember there could be other reasons for the changes other than cancer but only the biopsy can confirm what these might be.

I can understand you reaching out to others who may be in a similar boat to you but everyone is different and the outcomes won't necessarily be the same, so it can be tricky to compare stories.

I hope you know more soon and everything is okay for you.

Get back if you need to and if you would like to chat things over the phone our number is 0808 800 4040, Monday-Friday 9-5.

    All the best
