I have a lymph node lump in my neck that comes and goes I get pain in my stomach and chest a lot aswell last year I had chest X-ray that was all okay I get pain in my lymp node areas and I'm worried this could be lymphoma what's you opinion thanks Harry

  • Dear Harry,

Thank you for getting touch with us.

There are many reasons why some people have low vitamin B12 levels. For most people it is due to diet or an underlying health condition (not cancer). If you have been diagnosed with a condition called pernicious anaemia (you would have been told if you had) this can slightly increase the risk of developing stomach cancer. But stomach cancer is a uncommon cancer and mostly affects people after the age of 60.

Lymph nodes can increase and decrease for many reasons, most of the time it has nothing to do with cancer. If you search online with these symptoms for a diagnosis, lymphoma will always be an option. However the internet cannot tell anyone what is the matter, it can only give ideas of a possible diagnosis.

You may have heard this before but at 22 it is unlikely that you have cancer. This is because for most people the risk of developing cancer increases with age. If you are concerned about your health you should get checked out by your GP. If your GP is concerned then you will be asked to have tests and investigations done.

The best thing to do now is to stop prodding and touching (if you are ) any of the lymph nodes you are concerned about, if they persist talk with your GP. Also if you need more information about your vitamin B12 levels talk with your GP and ask what you can do about them.

The NHS has really good information about low Vitamin B12 levels; what causes it and the possible complications it can cause, you can read it here

I hope this has been helpful and that you will be okay.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • Yh but all the tests they've done have come back negative for me being low in it and it's been going on for 4 years now and now I've got theeee problems with lymp nodes been doctors they don't seem to be bothered I'm don't have anemia but would lymphoma cause low b12

  • Hi again

If you have had low vitamin b12 for 4 years it would be unlikely for this to be lymphoma , but it's not really possible to say as we aren't involved in your care. I wonder whether the doctors have looked into your diet as this can be a main explanation for low vitamin b12. Sometimes there is a problem with absorbing it but it sounds like this has been looked at.

If you have been checked out by the doctors, that sounds reassuring that they weren't concerned - you can always go back and ask them for their reasons and this may help.

    All the best

    Wanda
