Breast indentation

Hi I noticed a slight indentation below my left nipple a week ago and as I had a mammogram booked today didn't worry too much.

The Radiologist noticed it too. I had bowel cancer 18 months ago with no spread but had nine bouts of chemotherapy to be on the safe side, all my scans and tumour markers have been clear since then.

my question is has anyone ever had an indentation that was perfectly harmless or is it always cancer ?

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

It may be a good idea to make an appointment with your GP to discuss it with them. They will obviously be getting the results of your recent mammogram but your GP may also want to see you to perform a breast examination and a possible referral to a breast clinic but of course I can't be sure.

Neither the nurses or any one on the forum can diagnose you but even just for peace of mind I would get the indentation checked out. Often women are referred to breast clinics not because the doctor think cancer is present but to find out what something is.

It is a comfort to hear what other members of the forum have to say but everyone's situation can be different so it is difficult to compare one person with another.

If you want to ring the helpline nurses then you are welcome to do so.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best Wishes,

    Catherine
