4 weeks after lletz. Advice please

Hi,

I wonder if someone can advise me. I had a loop excision on 8th Feb. I didn't have bleeding or much grainy brown discharge but I had smelly discharge which was an infection and I was treated with antibiotics. I then had a normal period - somewhat more painful but the date was normal. That has now gone and I still have a yellow discharge, it doesn't smell but it's quite a lot.

Can I do a treatment for BV at this point or do I need to wait for it to stop, will it stop or is it normal?

I received a letter today also saying that the removal of cells showed evidence of CIN 2 - 3 and they have HOPEFULLY removed them! Why does the word hopefully make me uneasy?

Thank you.

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear that you needed treatment for abnormal cells on your cervix.

I don't know if you can now use Bacterial Vaginitis (BV) treatment, you might need to check that out with your GP.

I realise that seeing the word "hopefully" could be a bit of a worry. However, I think it is fair to say that for the vast majority all the abnormal cells will be removed. The word hopefully I think relates to the fact that nothing has a 100% success rate. That is true with everything.

Be reassured that that you will be followed up in 6months and for most people no more treatment is needed.  Another charity called Jo's Trust has good information about this , you can see it here

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
