New tumors

Hi

My dad got diagnosed with stage 4 hodgkin's lymphoma at Christmas and has started chemo. He has been told after 4 doses he will be scanned to see if its helping or not. He is having his 3rd dose today but I just wanted to know if anyone else has started chemotherapy for this but is getting loads new tumors pop up everywhere? Does this mean its not working?

  • Hello Bex99 and thanks for posting us a question,

I am sorry to learn about your dad and can understand how stressful it is when someone close is having cancer treatment.

I wasn't sure what your dad's doctors think about these tumours, but as he is only half way through his planned treatment it might be too early to say what is going on - the third and fourth treatments could be important. If this is worrying your dad, he should talk it over with the specialist hospital team and get their opinion. They know all about him so are best placed to say if it means anything.

I'm not sure if anyone else will come along and post - Hodgkin's lymphoma isn't all that common so they may not  You could try the online Support Group of the charity Lymphoma Action, but because everyone is different,  hearing someone else's account of things might not shed much light on your dad's situation.

I think it can be hard not to worry during treatment. Do encourage your dad to speak to his team and get their input. I hope they can reassure him.

If you want to talk anything over, please do give us a call on  Freephone 0808 800 4040, we are around weekdays, 9-5.

    Best wishes,

    Julia
