Reoccurring swelling and lumps in tongue

Hi there, I have suffered with my tongue swelling and becoming full of very painful lumps (hard) inside my tongue and also on the outside (outside lumps mainly look like blood blisters and are raised). These can last for a day or up to a week. Nothing seems to stop this from happening and there is always some sort of lump or bump on my tongue. Should I be worried?

  • Hello Lauren and thanks for your post

I'm afraid we are unable to diagnose or tell anyone if anything is the matter. Symptoms can have straightforward medical explanations. But only a doctor can make a medical assessment so the best thing to do is to make an appointment with your GP just to be on the safe side.

Because of the current pandemic, it’s more likely you will be offered a telephone appointment initially with your doctor. After the consultation, if they feel they need to see you, they can offer you a face to face appointment.

I hope you know more about your situation soon. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
