petrified i have cancer

Hi all, I am looking for an alternative to my self diagnois of cancer which sounds stupid but im really scared. Im a 40 year old

smoker, and for over 20 years i have had problems with my stomach ive been in hospital given morphene and then sent home with no tests. But more recently over the last few years my left side of my stomach is becoming painful now and then with really bad constipaion or worse the runs which i cant controll. The last few months i have notice occasionly there is blood on the outside of the stool but mostly on the toilet paper. I have finaly called the doctor today and she said come in for a check and she will refer me for further tests. She mentioned to rule out cancer now i hear that word in my head constantly. Has anyone gone thorugh something similar that was not cancer.

    I’m sorry you are having stomach symptoms and can understand you wanting to find out more.

    I'm afraid we are unable to diagnose or tell anyone if anything is the matter. But it is important to remember that symptoms can have many different causes and most won't be due to cancer. But only a doctor can make a medical assessment so it's good that you have made an appointment to see your GP just to be on the safe side.

    Hopefully people will come along and share their experiences with you, as support like this can be invaluable. But it’s important to bear in mind that even if there are other people who have experienced similar things , their experience may not shed much light about what is going on with you.
