Chemo and chicken pox

So my husband is undergoing chemo. I have a cousin whose daughter has had chicken pox and it's been 2 days since the last blister has scabbed over. She will attend a birthday party that our daughter is invited to also. My cousin also has another kid who hasn't had the virus yet. Our 6 year old has been vaccinated against chicken pox.  My concern is regarding the younger sibling who might be in the incubation period. My husband will not attend the party but Should I avoid seeing them until 21 days? It doesn't make sense as our children attend the same school and one way or another they will be in each others faces if not directly indirectly through other family members.  We also have a 7 month old baby who is considered vunerable I guess. I could keep baby away from the little ones but would I be risking it for my husband. A little confused atm.

  • Hi and thanks for posting

It is confusing - as you say they will be mixing at school. The main thing is that your daughter is vaccinated - but it also depends on whether your husband has had chicken pox in the past and you also. It is possible to get chicken pox twice, but it' s not very common. So if you have all had chickenpox in your family, other than your baby, it's much less likely any of you will get it.

As your husband may also have other health conditions though, it's always best to check it out with his chemotherapy unit, who will have all his medical details to hand. It will also be perhaps a case of what you feel comfortable doing.

There is some more information here

    I hope all goes well

    All the best
