Mole removal and biopsy during pregnancy

Hi,

I'm booked for Mole removal and biopsy next week for a mole that's on my breast.

I am 34 weeks pregnant and will be getting a local anaesthetic.

Is it safe for baby for me to have local anesthetic especially in an area so close to my belly?

Hello and thanks for posting,
Local anaesthetic does exactly that, it works only on a small area of body tissue to temporarily numb it for a short period of time. So it does not travel around the body, and won't affect your baby, so please don't worry. I am assuming that they are fully aware that you are pregnant.
Your doctor would not be proceeding with this, if there was any serious risk involved.

Thank you for your reply. She said she will be using 1ml of lidocaine. Can this cross the placenta and harm baby? I think I might be worrying about nothing.

Lidocaine does not cross the placenta and will not harm your baby. As my colleague Vanda said ,local anaesthetic only works on a small area of body tissue to temporarily numb it for a short period of time.
I hope that this helps. If you still remain worried then do speak to your GP who will hopefully reassure you.
