Cin2 cells no treatment

Hi,

So a in 2017 i had a LLETZ for cin2.

Fast forward to now. I have cin2 again but this time they are not doing any treatment, and they want me to have a colposcopy again in 6 months time... They say due to my age (31) and the fact it would be the 2nd time for treatment.

Is this normal???

Considering my last smear at the end of 2020 was clear. In a year its gone to cin2.

Anyone else had the same? And why can they leave it this time but not the first time.

Thank you.

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about your abnormal cells and appreciate you have questions about these not being removed at this time.

As you say very often CIN2 is treated.  However in more recent years some studies have suggested that for some younger women in some situations that monitoring these abnormal cells may be the best way forward. This is because it has been shown these often do resolve by themselves, without treatment.

They will keep an eye on you as you have said and if there is any sign of worsening at that point they will treat you.

I hope this helps and puts your mind at ease. Do talk it through with your own GP or the colposcopy unit again if you remain worried about this.

    All the best

    Naomi
