Positive FIT with score of 65 and eight weeks on chronic dia

Hi everyone

I am a 48 year old reasonably well female

I have been suffering with terrible diarrhoea since the beginning of January , and after have a Positive fit test I have a colonoscopy booked for the 2nd of March

My trouble seems to have started following having a cyst down below, I had antibiotics , then after finishing them a few days later started with the diarrhoea. GP doesn't think it's connected

My Symptoms apart from the diarrhoea are

right sided pain just under my ribs usually after an explosive episode of diarrhoea

very foul smelling diarrhoea various colours

loud gurgling noises in my stomach

pelvic and back pain

my mind is going mad but to be honest I'm not bothered about the outcome just need answers , do others think I have colon cancer are these the symptoms

I'm really confused

Any advice welcome

  • I have had trouble after antibiotics diarrhoea and vomiting no appetite these were taken for urine infections following catheter during surgery, urine infections cleared up but still had d&v for ages. It settled then 3 weeks ago I was given folic acid for anaemia and that's causing the same problems not that l have been able to convince my dr. She keeps saying reduce the dose and try again ! I have now stopped taking it waiting for my bowel to settle it's still gurgling loudly the dog gave me a funny look last night.  I am having trouble convincing them that my bowel won't tolerate the meds.

l feel for you l hope you have a good result from your colonoscopy mine showed ovarian cysts no cancer but they have been removed recently just in case they become cancerous later. There are multiple reasons for a Positive fitt test just a little anal bleeding due to diarrhoea can do it.
Try to relax the scan date will soon be here.

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about the symptoms you have and are awaiting a colonoscopy to tell you more.

No one here i'm afraid can say what these symptoms may be caused by as there are still other possibilities that won't be cancer, so hang in there for now.

Other inflammatory bowel conditions including crohns, ulcerative colitis and irritable bowel syndrome can cause a change in bowel habit, blood, gurgling and pain so as I say at this point in time it is impossible to pin point the exact cause. Avoid googling and searching for answers on the internet as that can't diagnose anyone either.

I hope everything will be okay and you know more soon as well as having family and friends around you to support you at this time.

Do get back if needed and you are also very welcome to talk things over on our helpline on 0808 800 4040, mon-Fri 9-5.

    Take care

    Naomi

  • Hi, did you get an answer for this? I hope all is well

  • If your story is similar to the opening posts, and it's involved antibiotics, i would ask to be tested for C Diff. My mum is still getting over it after having had antibiotics for a urine infection. She had all the symptoms and more that are described in the opening post.

  • I didn't have antibiotics no. Just lose stools and heartburn for 2 months. I'm going insane with worry yet for some reason my doctor isn't concerned. I'm afraid she's just wasting time not doing tests. How can it be normal to have lose stools for months. I don't have any cramps with it so don't think it's ibs. I have to leave a FIT test in next week. I hate this worry

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I thought I would jump on as it doesn't look like Deano has posted on the forum for some time.so you may not get a reply.

I'm sorry that you have been experiencing similar symptoms. We always encourage people to go back and see their GP if their symptoms are not improving. Doctors are trained to assess symptoms and can arrange tests if they feel it’s necessary to try to find out what might be going on.

I hope you know more soon.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
