Reassurance or advice

Hi I'm just looking for advice, reassurance and other people who have similar experiences as me........ Got home from work Thursday night and my boobs were both feeling really tender and when I felt my right boob discovered a lump went straight to the doctors the next morning and she referred me for a urgent mammogram within the next 2 weeks, breasts are still feeling tender today kind of the feeling when breast milk comes in after giving birth, period was only 2 weeks ago so not menstrual related I don't think I'm just wondering if anyone has had similar symptoms I'm absolutely terrified as I lost my mam to breast cancer she got diagnosed at age 42 I'm currently age 32 and I'm currently praying to the gods that it's not cancer. Any advice or help is appreciated. Thank you.

  • Hello Kayleighmc13 and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to learn about your mam and that you are experiencing these unexplained symtoms.

Because you noticed it in both breasts, I think the tenderness is more likely to be hormonal and probably not related to the lump. Breast lumps have a number of causes and although I can't say it isn't cancer,  it could just as likely be something else like a fatty lump, but obviously it is important to get it properly checked out.

I assume that you have been referred to a local NHS breast clinic. This is where any sort of breast problem is assessed. At the clinic they usually do ultrasound scans to check out a problem in younger women as they work best in this age group, so I am not sure if you will necessarily need to have a mammogram.

Naturally something like this is going to be worrying until you know what the score is and with your mam in your thoughts,  I expect it will be on your mind a lot.  Try to take things one step at a time and hold your nerve (not easy I know). Don't be tempted to look for answers online as the searching can make you worry more without leaving you much the wiser.

I hope you get your clinic appointment through soon and that this just turns out to be a health scare.

    Best wishes,

    Julia

  • Thank you so much for your response I got a phone call this morning telling me my appointment at the breast screening clinic is on the 3rd of March at 9am, my tenderness has eased a bit since the other day but I can still feel a hard pea sized lump just above my nipple and I think I can feel a second lump at the right of my breast further towards my armpit. I'm trying my best not to worry but it's taking all my strength to not just sit and cry. I have been looking for answers on Google but I know I need to stop as it's just filling my head with more worry. Thank you so much for your response I will try and stay calm until I get some answers.
