Pain/Healing after Lletz surgery

Hello,

I had a Lletz surgery 5 days ago, immediately after the treatment I felt very uncomfortable. I was expecting some bleeding but surprisingly I didn't bleed, just had some coffee grain type of discharge, minor also. Does that mean that I am healing well if I am not bleeding ? Or does that mean that healing process will be longer? Yesterday evening I started getting pain around my belly button area, very mild though. I'm wondering if this is normal to happen after Lletz or it is something else that I should worry about ?
Also I would like to know how I will know that I am fully healed ? It says 4-6 weeks healing process, but how will I know after 4 weeks If I am healed or not? Sorry, I do have a lot of questions in my head.

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

Some people will bleed and some will not, so don't worry if you did not bleed. It is not unusual to have a little stomach pain.  How long it will take for the area to heal (4-6 weeks) is based upon clinical evidence and what has happened to the many women who have had this procedure done over the years. The thing to be concerned about is if you develop an infection, as this could possibly delay healing. Signs of infection would be increased pain, a smelly vaginal discharge and/or bleed a lot ( very heavy with many blood clots).

Follow the guidance you have been given at the colposcopy unit. You might also find it helpful to read the information about the LLETZ procedure and after care from another charity called Jo's Trust, you can see this on their website here

I hope you will be okay. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
